Power And Energy Minister Says No Decision To Increase Electricity Charges: "We Will Give Maximum Benefits To People"

Power and Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya assured that no decision has so far been made to increase electricity charges.

In the wake of the recent fuel price hike, speculation was rife that an increase in electricity charges was imminent.

"There is no such decision. The fuel price had to be increased due to fluctuations in the global market. We are trying or best to mitigate its negative impact," the Minister said.

"Our sole intention," he added, "is to give maximum benefits to the public. Therefore, a hike in electricity tariff is not in the picture."
