Ranjan Lodges Complaint With FCID Against MR Over Chinese Funds Used For Presidential Election Campaign

Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake has lodged  a complaint with the Police FCID against Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa over an article that appeared in the New York Times on China's controversial investments in Sri Lanka.

The article claimed at least $7.6 million was dispensed from China Harbor’s account to affiliates of former President Rajapaksa’s Presidential campaign in 2015.

The former President's group, however, has categorically stated that the article was a "gross misrepresentation" of facts.

Former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, in a statement today, said a clarification he gave to the New York Times had not been incorporated into the article.

He accused the New York Times of publishing a report that lacked objectivity.
