Mangala Has The Last Laugh: Fuel Prices Increase Again Following Discussions With President Sirisena

The government decided to increase the prices of fuel again following a discussion between President Maithripala Sirisena and Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera.

Under the  price revision, Petrol (Octane 92) will be increased by Rs.8 to Rs.145, Petrol (Octane 95) will be increased by Rs.7 to Rs.155, One litre of Auto Diesel increased by Rs.9 to Rs.118 and One litre of Super Diesel will be increased by Rs.10 to Rs.129.

The President last week reversed a decision by the Finance Minister to increase fuel prices.

The decision to increase fuel prices was made according to the price formula approved by the Cabinet.

However, President Sirisena, who chaired the Cabinet meeting which passed the price formula, said he was unaware of the fuel price hike last week.

Following a discussion with Samaraweera last evening, Sirisena again agreed to increase fuel prices.
