Misappropriation Of Rs. 5 Million At Sathosa: Rajapaksa Ally Johnston Fernando Remanded Till September 11

The Kurunegala High Court remanded three people including former Minister Johnston Fernando until September 11 over misappropriation of public funds. 

The case has been filed with regard to misappropriations at Sathosa when Fernando was the Minister in charge of the subject. 

The case will be heard before the Kurunegala High Court on a day to day basis. 

 The Attorney General has filed indictment against Fernando in the Kurunegala High Court over an alleged financial misappropriation amounting to Rs. 5.02 million at Lak Sathosa.

Lak Sathosa former Chairman K. M. R. Fernando and former minister’s private secretary Raj Mohadeen Mohammad Shakeer have also been indicted in the High Court for aiding and abetting in committing this offence.

Fernando was charged under the Cooperatives Wholesale Establishment (CWE) Act, for allegedly ordering goods worth over Rs. 5.02 million be released from three warehouses at Yanthampalawa, Vehera and Mallawapiya in the Kurunegala district during the North Western Provincial Council election on September 2013.

He was previously arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) to obtain a statement on the matter.
