S. B. Dissanayake Tells President To Reconsider Call For Snap Elections: ‘Revoke Gazette’

November 22, 2018

UPFA MP S. B. Dissanayake, at a press conference this evening, urged the President to ‘forget’ about holding Parliamentary election in January next year, saying he ought to just revoke the Gazette.

“There might be a problem with the Gazette issued calling for elections,” he said. “But the President can revoke it even minutes before a (Supreme Court) decision is made.”

The MP said President Sirisena had the support of some 122 - 123 MPs before he dissolved Parliament and called for fresh elections, when they “all ran”.

He said the President should instead hold the Parliamentary elections at the end of 2020, the year it is originally scheduled to be held.
