Speaker Karu Jayasuriya recognized former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Leader of the Opposition. 

However, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella and TNA MP M.A. Sumanthiran questioned the suitability of former President Rajapaksa and other MPs who joined the SLFP to continue as MPs. 

Sumathiran requested the Speaker to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee to investigate into the matter. 

The Speaker said he would give his decision on the appointment of the committee later. 

Meanwhile, the UNP appointed Lakshman Kiriella as the Leader of the House and Gayantha Karunathilake as the Chief Government Whip.
