IGP Pujitha Jayasundara Placed On Compulsory Leave: President's Office Says Move Will Facilitate Investigations Into Easter Sunday Explosions

IGP Pujitha Jayasundara has been sent on compulsory leave with immediate effect, President's Office sources confirmed.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, a spokesman from the President's Office confirmed that Jayasundara was sent on compulsory leave to facilitate the ongoing investigation into the Easter Sunday explosions.

President Maithripala Sirisena held former Defence Ministry Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and IGP Pujitha Jayasundara responsible for the security lapses leading to the Easter Sunday explosions on April 21.

It is learnt that Jayasundara has refused to resign from his post, as directed by President Sirisena.

Senior DIG Chandana Wickremaratne has been appointed the Acting IGP, replacing Jayasundara.
