SLFP MPs Request Sirisena To Run For Presidency Again As Serious Allegations Surface Against Him Before PSC Probing Easter Sunday Attacks

A group of SLFP MPs presented a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena urging him to contest the next Presidential election.

SLFP Senior Vice Chairman Nimal Siripala de Silva, General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera, National Organizer Duminda Dissanayake, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Sarath Amunugama, Sriyani Wijewickrema, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Weerakumara Dissanayake were among those who signed the letter.

The letter was presented while the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the Easter Sunday explosions was made aware of some serious allegations involving the President by IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Ministry Secretary Hemasiri Fernando.

Testifying before the PSC, IGP Pujith Jayasundara said the President offered him an ambassadorial port if he resigned from the IGP post accepting responsibility for the Easter Sunday attack.

Fernando told the PSC a short while ago that the President specifically told him not to invite the Prime Minister, State Minister of Defence and IGP for the National Security Council meetings.
