US Ambassador Says Federal Register Could Be ‘Months Behind’ Recording Renunciation Of Citizenship

US Ambassador Alaina B.Teplitz said yesterday that the U.S. Federal Register could be “months behind” in recording the renunciation of citizenship.

Her comments come with the dual citizenship controversy surrounding Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The Sri Lankan Constitution does not allow for persons holding dual citizenship to run for President.

The media reported last week that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s name was not included in the U.S. Federal Register of names of those renunciation citizenship.
