No Provincial Council Election Before Presidential Election: Supreme Court Officially Informs President Sirisena

The Supreme Court informed President Maithripala Sirisena that the Provincial Council election cannot be held before the next Presidential election.

The Presidential Secretariat said the decision has been officially communicated to the President.

The Elections Commission has also made it clear that it is impossible to hold the Provincial Council election before the next Presidential.

With this decision, the Presidential election will be the next major national election in Sri Lanka. Informed political sources said the election would be held during the last Saturday of the month of November.
