BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera today questioned the role of Ministry of Social Integration and that of Minister Vasudewa Nanayakkara saying the ministry and the minister have done nothing to strengthen social integration in Sri Lanka.
Gnanasara Thera said Minister Nanayakkara had done nothing to fulfill his responsibilities, apart from “flying kites” at Galle Face to develop national harmony in the country. The kite festival was organized by the Minister of Social Integration, under the auspices of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as a way of raising awareness of unity and national harmony in Sri Lanka.
“As a result of their failure,” the BBS Chief said, “our organization is now compelled to take measures towards ensuring harmony and national unity in Sri Lanka.” He added the ministry has failed to live up to the expectations of different ethnic groups in the country.
The BBS General Secretary made these remarks addressing a press conference this afternoon at the BBS headquarters in Kirulapona, Colombo 06.
Minister Nanayakkara has been a strong critique of the Bodu Bala Sena since the inception of the hardcore Sinhala-Buddhist organization. He recently called for the arrest of BBS General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera in connection with violent clashes that occurred in Beruwala, Aluthgama and Dharga Town.
