With the release of results of Jaffna and Vanni districts, Sajith Premadasa is currently leading the election with a thin margin.

However, this is likely to change with the release of other results - especially the areas that are considered the strongholds of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Premadasa has so far secured 1,089,724votes with a percentage of 47.30.

Rajapaksa has polled 1,058,032 votes with a percentage of 45%.

NPP candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has only managed to secure 74,646 votes with a percentage of 3.24%.
