Parliamentary Election Likely To Be Delayed Due To COVID-19 Outbreak In Sri Lanka

Many political observers indicated that the Elections Commission of Sri Lanka might delay the Parliamentary election in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka.

The Elections Commission is empowered to postpone the election due to an emergency once the nomination process is completed.

The nomination process of the Parliamentary election of Sri Lanka concluded today.

Meanwhile, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said, "In times of Corona, the nation and its leaders should understand our top priorities. Now, it’s a public health priority to curtail the spread of the virus, and then it’s an economic priority to help industries and look after the most vulnerable. It is NOT a political priority!"
