President Wickremesinghe Announces Comprehensive Initiatives for Health and Education Advancement in Northern Province

President Ranil Wickremesinghe declared a prompt allocation of funds during a discussion held yesterday at the Jaffna District Secretariat. The President, along with representatives from the health and education sectors and the youth community, outlined specific initiatives to bolster the region's development.

Among the key announcements, President Wickremesinghe emphasized the allocation of land for a teaching hospital in Jaffna and the provision of funds to expedite the recruitment of teachers to fill existing vacancies. These measures are expected to enhance healthcare facilities and education standards in the Northern Province, reflecting the government's commitment to fostering inclusive development.

Addressing a gathering of nearly 300 individuals representing various sectors, President Wickremesinghe assured his dedication to providing essential support to integrate the Northern Province into the national economy. He urged government officials and the youth community to actively contribute to this initiative, fostering collaboration for sustainable growth.

During the discussion, a senior professor from the University of Jaffna presented a comprehensive proposal addressing deficiencies within the institution. The proposal outlined recommendations for enhancing both physical and human resources, aiming to elevate the academic standards and overall quality of education in the region.

Fisheries Minister Mr. Douglas Devananda, Member of Parliament Mr. Angajan Ramanathan, President’s Secretary Mr. Saman Ekanayake, and Jaffna District Secretary Mr. S. Sivabalasundaran were among the dignitaries present. Academic professionals from the University of Jaffna, including Vice-Chancellor Professor S. Srisatkunarajah and Former Vice-Chancellor Professor Vasanthy Arasaratnam, also participated in the discussion.
