Anticipated Heavy Rains Above 50 mm Across Sri Lanka Prompt Weather Advisory

The Meteorological Department of Sri Lanka has issued a weather advisory forecasting fairly heavy rains above 50 mm in certain areas, with specific emphasis on Ampara, Batticaloa, and Badulla districts. Additionally, heavy rains, reaching about 100 mm, are expected at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts.

The advisory comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Meteorological Department to keep the public informed and prepared for varying weather conditions. Residents in the identified districts and provinces are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions in light of the anticipated rainfall.

The forecasted heavy rains may result in localized flooding and disruptions to normal activities, particularly in low-lying areas. Authorities are advising residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the period of heightened rainfall and to be cautious of potential hazards such as landslides in hilly terrain.

In Ampara, Batticaloa, and Badulla districts, where fairly heavy rains are expected, residents are advised to secure loose items, clear drainage systems, and be prepared for potential localized flooding. In the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts, where heavier rains are predicted, authorities are on alert to respond to any emergent situations.
