Church Adopts Wait-and-See Approach as CID Plans to Question Former President Maithripala Sirisena

The Catholic Church in Sri Lanka has taken a cautious stance regarding the Criminal Investigation Department's (CID) decision to question former President Maithripala Sirisena. Despite assurances from the CID regarding their investigation into Sirisena's recent remarks, the Church has opted for a wait-and-see policy.

Fr. Jude Krishantha, the National Catholic Director of Mass Communications, revealed the Church's stance, emphasizing the need to observe the authorities' actions closely. He highlighted the discrepancy between Sirisena's previous denial of knowledge about the Easter Sunday bombings and his recent claim of awareness regarding the perpetrators.

Fr. Fernando echoed concerns, accusing Sirisena of misleading the judiciary and calling for his immediate arrest. The Church's skepticism reflects a desire for transparency and accountability in the investigation into the tragic events of the Easter Sunday attacks.
