Good Friday Commemorated Worldwide; Sri Lanka Implements Special Security Measures

Today, Christians worldwide observe Good Friday, marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. As part of the Holy Week leading to Easter Sunday, this solemn day prompts reflection on Christ's sacrifice.

In Sri Lanka, still recovering from the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, authorities have enacted heightened security measures. With a total deployment of over 10,000 security personnel, including police, Special Task Force, and Tri-Forces personnel, churches across the island are under close watch. Security plans, tailored to each church, involve inspections and body searches to ensure safety during Holy Masses from March 29 to 31.
This proactive approach aims to prevent any untoward incidents, particularly in churches expecting large congregations.
