Underage Drinking Bust: Schoolchildren Arrested for Liquor Party in Welimada

In Welimada, a group of seven schoolchildren, all under the age of 16, including two schoolgirls, were apprehended by local authorities for hosting a liquor drinking gathering in an abandoned building.

The incident occurred at the Sappukade area, where the youngsters forcibly entered the abandoned Young Men’s Christian Association building to commemorate one of their birthdays with alcohol.

Acting on a tip-off from concerned citizens, the Welimada police conducted a raid, finding the underage individuals already intoxicated with a premium brand of liquor.

Further investigations uncovered that the students, who attended a well-known school in the Welimada region, had fabricated attending extra classes as a cover for their outing. Led by OIC Welimada Police Sampath Abeywickerama, law enforcement carried out the operation.
