Showers Expected to Intensify Across Sri Lanka, Warns Department of Meteorology

The Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast indicating an escalation in showery conditions across several provinces of Sri Lanka in the coming days, starting from tomorrow, May 8th.

According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Uva, and Eastern provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts, primarily after 2:00 pm. There's a possibility of showers or thundershowers in other areas during the afternoon or night, with some areas likely to experience fairly heavy showers of about 50 mm, particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as Galle and Matara districts.

Misty conditions are anticipated in certain areas of the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces during the morning hours. Additionally, the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota are expected to experience showers or thundershowers, accompanied by southwesterly or variable winds with speeds ranging from 20-30 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in specific sea areas, potentially causing fairly rough conditions. Temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas are likely during thundershowers.
