Sports Minister Appoints Sri Lanka’s First Sports Ombudsman

Retired State Official Chulananda Perera has been appointed as Sri Lanka's first Sports Ombudsman under the provisions of the Sports Law, No. 25 of 1973, and a special extraordinary gazette notification No. 2382/32. The appointment aims to enhance accountability and fairness within the sports sector.

The newly established role gives Chulnanda Perera the authority to conduct impartial investigations into complaints lodged by individuals affected by the decisions or actions of various registered Sports Associations and Federations in Sri Lanka. Aggrieved parties must submit their complaints in writing within 14 days of the contested decision.

Upon receipt of a complaint, the Ombudsman has 14 days to provide recommendations on the matter to the Sports Minister via the Director General of Sports.
