September 30, 2014

A senior officer at Ministry of External Affairs in Sri Lanka has told BBC that Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the UK Dr. Chris Nonis has resigned from his post.

It is said that he has resigned due to an allegedly assault by a Politician in New York while the Sri Lankan delegation led by President Rajapaksa were there to attend the UN General Assembly Sessions.

However, the official could not reveal many details, BBC reported. It was unclear as to whether the resignation has been accepted.

BBC also reports that Dr. Nonis has refused to comment if an assault took place or not. It was reported in media that the assault took place at a dinner which even President Rajapaksa has attended.

Meanwhile reliable sources have also indicated that Dr. Nonis will not resign from his post, BBC has said.
