Sri Lankan all-rounder and off-spinner Suraj Randiv has said that he still does not know the reason why he was removed from the Sri Lankan National Cricket Team when he was performing well.
In an interview with a vernacular newspaper the all-rounder said that he was last given a chance to play in One Day Internationals (ODI) in 2011. His last ODI was the World Cup Final against India in Mumbai in the mid 2011.
“Though I was selected for the squad a few times, I was never given a chance to play in ODIs for the national Cricket team after 2011. I was called for a test match in 2012 with the New Zealand team but that too was limited to that match”, he said.
Randiv pointed out that normally a player is removed from the team if he is out of form or having a dry streak, but that he was removed from the team without a proper explanation at a time he was performing well.
“I still do not know the reason as to why I was removed from the team”, Randiv, who was once dubbed as a potential replacement for legendary off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, said.
Randiv said that he did not give up as he started continuing his form in first class Cricket in both batting and bowling.
Suraj Randiv said that his name is among the 30 names those who were nominated for the Cricket World Cup 2015 by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board but he remarked that it is doubtful whether he will get a chance to perform in the Cricket World Cup.
