The Supreme Court, a short while ago, rejected an appeal filed by former DIG Vaas Gunawardena and five other accused against Colombo High Court trial at bar proceedings into the murder of millionaire businessman Mohammed Shiyam in Bambalapitiya.
The appeal sought the Supreme Court's intervention to discontinue with the Colombo HC proceedings into the killing.
The appeal was rejected when it was taken up for hearing this morning before five judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mohan Pieris.
The Supreme Court also directed the Colombo High Court trial at bar to continue with proceedings without delay.
The Supreme Court also rejected a bail application filed by former DIG Vaas Gunawardena and five other accused of the case.
