The Jathika Hela Urumaya expressed its displeasure over the attempts to use Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka’s name to support a pro-government rally which is scheduled to take place in Colombo tomorrow.
The pro-government rally is scheduled to take place at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium with the participation of leaders of the constituent parties of the government namely Wimal Weerawansa and Dinesh Gunawardena.
Issuing a media statement just a day before the rally, Nishantha Warnasinghe, Propaganda Secretary of the JHU said his party or Minister Ranawaka never had discussions with the government over the pro-government rally. He also confirmed that Minister Ranawaka would not take part in the rally supporting President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Warnasinghe added that the propaganda campaign painted a wrong picture about the Jathika Hela Urumaya and its stalwart Minister patali Champika Ranawaka.
Meanwhile, the protest rally organized by the Pivithuru Hetak organization, led by JHU Parliamentarian Athuraliye Rathana Thera will take place at Muttiah Ground in Colomo tomorrow.
However, government sources added that a high profile delegation from the government would meet JHU representatives this evening for a special discussion.
Multiple sources confirmed Asian Mirror that the JHU has already decided to leave the government unless there is a constitutional amendment before the next presidential election.
The government is of the view that there is not enough time to introduce a constitutional announcement before the declaration of the presidential election.
