Mobile Service To Provide NICs In Trinco From Tomorrow

November 14, 2014

Campaign for Free and Fair Election (CaFFE), Elections Department and Department of Registration of Persons have planned to launch a joint program to issue National Identity Cards and other documents to people in Trincomalee, so that their right to vote will be assured.

In a recent meeting with the participation of CaFFE, Center for Human Rights (CHR), District Secretary and Divisional Secretaries it was revealed that around 15,200 registered voters in Trincomalee District have no identification papers which will disallow them to vote. The planned program was launched as a remedy.

The program will be conducted at different locations from November 15 to 29. All persons will be provided services free of charge. CaFFE, CHR and the Department of Registration of Persons carried out such mobile programs in Badulla District earlier and 6,400 people benefitted from this.

The CHR is organizing the program which is funded by the SPICE program of USAID.
