Jathika Hela Urumaya Legal Advisor and former Western Province Minister Udaya Gammanpila has made his letter of resignation from his ministerial portfolios available to media. He has sent the letter today to the Governor of Western Province Alavi Maulana.
In this letter, he has confirmed that the JHU has yesterday decided to leave the UPFA on principle grounds, putting an end to the confusion that was created earlier today in the press conference called by the party.
JHU General Secretary Patali Champika Ranawaka said in this crucial press conference earlier in the day that he and Udaya Gammanpila would resign from all positions in the government. The full-scale press conference was held in Colombo with the participation of all key members of the Jathika Hea Urumaya including Athurliye Rathana thera and Omalpe Sobhitha thera.
“We will decide on our future course of action based on our policies,” Ranawaka said addressing the press conference.
Athuraliye Rathana Thera, the outspoken MP and the Chairman of the Jathika Hela Urumaya, said at the same press conference that the party would not support President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the upcoming presidential polls.
Meanwhile, sources within the JHU have indicated that the party is ready to discuss the matter with Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
