"Are You The 'Matara - Sunil' Who Called Mahindananda?" - Ranjan Giggles!

December 06, 2014

UNP Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake said that it was up to the CID to prove who the controversial “Matara Sunil” was - the man who gave a telephone call to Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthagamage during a political show on Derana TV.

A caller named Sunil from Matara gave a telephone call to Sports Minister Aluthgamage and leveled serious allegations against him saying the Minister’s wife was aware of all his alleged “malpractices”. Following the telephone call, Minister Aluthgamage walked out of the TV show, accusing Derana TV station of supporting the political campaign of the opposition.

Soon after the show, Aluthgamage lodged a complaint with the Mirihana Police and subsequent to the complaint, the Police later revealed that the telephone number of the caller is registered under UNP Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake’s name.

It is widely speculated that Ramanayake – a popular actor – gave this telephone call with an altered voice.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, Ramanayake said it would be interesting to see who “Matara – Sunil” really is. When asked whether he gave the call pretending to be an ordinary caller, the Parliamentarian said it was up to the Police to prove his identity.

"Let's hope it would be revealed soon. Anyway, the caller did not mention any name. Soon after the caller started speaking, the Minister lost his temper and started yelling at him. We were not sure whether he was yelling at the caller or yelling at the President who was keeping his files! There were six people in the programme and only Minister Aluthgamage walked out,” Ramanayake said while giggling!

“Anyway, there is a court case at the Kaduwela Magistrate pertaining to the matter the caller was talking about. So let’s see!” the UNP Parliamentarian added.
