'Hirunika Has Returned': Rajitha

December 14, 2014

Kaluthara District Parliamentarian Rajitha Senaratne has stated that Hirunika Premachandra has not left the country.

Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya, Senaratne has said that the Western Provincial Council Member who left the country over threats to her life has returned to the island and that she will take part in the election campaign for the common candidate of the opposition.

Senaratne added that Premachandra has threats to her life and the underworld gang members who assassinated her father are also behind these threats. He added that election hoardings near her house have also been destroyed by these thugs.

Senaratne has also told BBC Sandeshaya that there was no point in complaining to the police and the Elections Commissioner was also powerless.

Meanwhile, former Chairman, Kotkawatte-Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha Prasanna Solangaarachchi told reporters in Colombo a few days ago that armed groups were roaming Kotikawatte and Mulleriyawa areas every night in Defenders and the lives of opposition’s activists are under threat.

Sollangaarachchi, who defected to the opposition camp a few days ago, is known to be a staunch supporter of Hirunika Premachandra’s father, the late Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.

Duminda Silva, UPFA organizer in Kolonnawa electorate, has scoffed at allegations made by Solangaarachchi. Speaking to ‘The Nation’ newspaper, Silva has told that there was no reign of terror in Kolonnawa. These allegations are made by individuals who can see defeat in the horizon, Silva has added.
