SLMC Denies SB's Statement: "Muslim Congress Still Indecisive"

December 14, 2014

While denying Minister S.B. Dissanayake’s claim that the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has decided to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the SLMC today said the party is yet to make a final decision on the matter and that will only come from the High Command of the party.

Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake, speaking in at an election meeting in Kandy, said that the SLMC has decided to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Speaking to Asian Mirror, Media Spokesman of the SLMC, Nizam Kariyappar said the party is yet to fix the date for the next High Command meeting. “A High Command meeting was scheduled for Saturday, but it did not take place. No new date has so far been fixed for the meeting,” he added.

“At the moment, the SLMC leader is holding discussions with representatives at various levels to get their viewpoints on the matter. The final decision of the SLMC will be acceptable to all,” he said.

It is in the grapevine that the SLMC will take at least two weeks to arrive at a final decision on the matter. When asked about the SLMC Media Spokesman denied the rumour saying there would be a significant development following the next High Command meeting.

However, it is learnt that the SLMC has come under immense pressure from its membership to stay away from the presidential campaign of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
