Minster of Health and Former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake yesterday revealed that four UNP organizers of the Polonnaruwa district have pledged support to him.
Attanayake, speaking at a UPFA political rally in Nawalapitiya yesterday (14), said that all four organizers consulted him regarding possible crossovers. However, the former UNP Secretary refrained from disclosing specific details about the organizers.
"They asked me what they should do, I advised them to be patient. I will tell them what to do at the right time”, Attanayake added. Polonnaruwa is the constituency of Common Candidate of the Opposition Maithripala Sirisena.
The Health Minister, in an interview with a vernacular newspaper two days ago, said that about 20 United National Party organizers are looking forward to join the ruling party and that they are all waiting for the right time to make a decision.
Attanayake added that a majority of the United National Party members are displeased over the party’s decision to support common candidate Maithripala Sirisena at the presidential election..
“I was the main person behind the UNP's Presidential Election campaign. When I left the party, its election campaign has come to a standstill. It has not recovered from that situation so far," he said.
However, several key spokespersons of the UNP scoffed at Attanayak's remarks over crossovers of electorate organizers.
