UPFA And Opposition Now Have Equal Seats At Kotte MC Due To Crossovers

December 16, 2014

Two members of the Kotte Municipal Council today decided to extend their support to Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena and to the common opposition.

With this move, the ruling party and the opposition now have an equal number of seats at the Kotte MC.

Before this crossover, another two members of the Council joined the opposition after breaking ranks with the ruling party.

As a result of the latest crossover, the functioning of the Kotte Municipal Council is likely to arrive at a standstill, political sources old Asian Mirror.

“If it continues”, they added, “the President will have to appoint a Special Commissioner to overlook the operations of the council.”

However, no official announcement has so far been made by the government over the situation of the Kotte Municipal Council.
