UNP National Organizer Daya Gamage stated that common candidate Maithripala Sirisena does not need cut-outs as he is residing in the heart of the people in the country.
Speaking at a public rally, he added that the UPFA was taking people to political rallies from distant places, adding that 3000 CTB buses were used to take people to Anuradhapura. People came even from Hambantota he said.
It was reported that a section of the crowd had apparently asked for a fisheries harbor from the President at this meeting. Daya Gamage mentioned this incident also.
He added that the government was reportedly planning to bring the crowd to Ampara for a political rally in 600 CTB buses, adding that it is the public money that is wasted for such endeavors. Ampara is the home district of Gamage.
A staunch loyalist of Ranil Wickremesinghe, Daya Gamage was said to be disgruntled at the UNP’s decision to support the common candidate instead of contesting the election on its own. He had reportedly distanced himself from the political campaign of Maithripala Sirisena and claims of him crossing over were also widely circulated some days ago.
