UPFA supporters pelted stones at Beruwala UNP Organizer Iftikar Jameel’s residence in Beruwala yesterday when former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was having dinner inside the house, an opposition spokesman told Asian Mirror.

The former President visited Beruwala yesterday to take part in the election rally organized by the Common Opposition to support Common Candidate Maithripala Sirisena. The rally was also attended by former Minister Rajitha Senaratne, UNP Leadership Council Chairman Parliamentarian Karu Jayasuriya and former Minister Imthiaz Bakeer Markar.

CBK had visited the UNP Organizer’s house in Beruwala to have dinner following the meeting.

The attack has been carried out by a local government politician of the ruling party, the opposition spokesman added. He had also damaged the vehicle of the UNP Organizer Jameel who was instrumental in organizing the Common Candidate’s meeting in Beruwala.

No one had sustained injuries due to the incident.
