The Agriculture Ministry has decided to pay compensation for damaged crops and to provide funds for farmers to overcome difficulties and meet the requirements of farmers affected by inclement weather, Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene said at the media briefing held at the Govijana Mandhiraya.
Minister Abeywardene said many agricultural lands have been damaged due to rainy weather in the island during the last few weeks. The ministry has decided to pay compensation for damaged crops and to provide funds for farmers to overcome difficulties.
Eggs and rice will be distributed among farmers for free as food items. Other goods will be provided to them at a reasonable price, he said.
Abeywardene said the ministry will support farmers in all possible ways to overcome the difficulties caused by the severe weather. The ministry will provide enough seeds for farmers for the next cultivation season, Minister Abeywardene said. - Government Info
