Falsified model ballot papers with a false electoral symbol for New Democratic Front candidate Maithripala Sirisena have been found in Chilaw, BBC Sandeshaya reported.
These ballot papers had the symbol of a three wheeler as the electoral sign of Sirisena.
The UNP Organizer Shantha Sisira Kumara has told media that even the elephant has been included in front of some other candidate’s name, even though the elephant is the symbol of the UNP.
Kumara has also told that complaints have been filed at Puttalam District Elections Office and also at Chilaw Police on those who distributed these false model ballot papers. However, nothing has still been done against them, he had added.
Meanwhile, Convener of the Center for Monitoring Election Violence D.M. Dissanayake has told BBC Sandeshaya that distributing a model ballot paper or having them in procession is a violation of election laws. He has added that several cases of circulation of such false model ballot papers had been reported in several places in the country.
The police have also confirmed that several such incidents have been reported. Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana has told BBC Sandeshaya that necessary steps will be taken on these incidents.
