Fake Ballot Papers Found From Trincomalee

Trincomalee became the next place to report the distribution of fake ballot papers after several such reports came from different parts of the island over the last few days.

In one such fake model ballot paper distributed in the district, common candidate Maithripala Sirisena's election symbol is given as a three wheeler, BBC Sandeshaya reported. This was the same symbol used for him in fake model ballot papers distributed in other areas including Chilaw.

In addition to that, a cross had been marked in front of President Rajapaksa's name.

There was another false ballot paper which had blacked out the President election symbol, the betel leaf, and had marked a cross in front of the name of Maithripala Sirisena, BBC Sandeshaya reported. Furthermore, the UNP election symbol, the elephant, had been given to Siritunge Jayasuriya of the United Socialist Party.

Incidentally, the three wheeler is the electoral symbol of the United Socialist Party.

Former Deputy Minister M.K.D.S. Gunawardena has reportedly criticized the police for its incompetence in arresting the people who distribute the ballot papers.
