Ranjan Says 'Maithri Palanaya' Does Not Mean Letting Thieves Flee

UNP Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake has said that all politicians who have been accussed of corruption should be prevented from fleeing abroad.

Speaking to BBC Sandeshaya, Ramanayake added that several politicians who have pending cases in the Bribery Commission are planning to flee the country.

He added that if 'Maithri Palanaya' (compassionate governance) means letting thieves flee, he was totally against the notion. He stated that the government should not let such people flee by any means.

Ramanayake also has said that the new President and Prime Minister are too decent for politics. Gentlemen's politics can be done only with gentlemen, he added, saying that the government has to be strict when it comes to thieves. He commended the way the new leadership treated the former president but added that if the government is too lenient, people will take advantage of it.
