Veteran singer and music director Sisira Senaratne passed away earlier today at the National Hospital, Colombo.
Educated in St. Mary's College, Chilaw and Nalanda College, Colombo, he entered the entertainment field in the 1950s. His voice became popular with the Rekhava film in 1956. He was a playback singer for many movies and has sung some of the most popular singles and duets (with wife Indrani Wijebandara).
Senaratne and his wife Indrani Wijebandara were also famous for the "sisindra" concerts they held. Senaratne also directed music in about 10 Sinhalese films and was the recipient of Sarasaviya Awards and Presidential Awards.
In later years, Senaratne was troubled by ill health. He was 79 at the time of his death.
