Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silver yesterday slammed at National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa for stating former President Mahinda Rajapaksa should be the Prime Ministerial Candidate of the United People’s Freedom Alliance.
“The National Freedom Front is not even a constituent party of the UPFA. It only contested under the UPFA ticket at some elections,” the Opposition Leader said during a political talk show last night, when asked about Weerawasna’s claims on the Prime Ministerial Candidate of the UPFA.
“However,” de Silva said, “the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, the Lanka Sama Smaaja Party and the Communist Party of Sri Lanka are members of the United People's Freedom Alliance."
By making this statement, the Opposition Leader made it clear that he was dissatisfied with the attempts made by the National Freedom Front to promote the former President as the Prime Ministerial Candidate of the UPFA. He indicated that Wimal Weerawansa had no right to make public statements about the Prime Ministerial Candidate of the coalition.
Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, led by Western Provincial Councilor Udaya Gammanpila, too is not a constituent party of the UPFA.
