Sri Lanka Freedom Party has decided to take disciplinary action against those who took part in the rally in Kandy on March 6, to support former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
SLFP Media Spokesperson Dilan Perera told media that the party took this decision to safeguard the future of the party.
The rally was organized by Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, National Freedom Front, Left Democratic Front and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya to urge the SLFP to name former president Rajapaksa as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the next general election.
SLFP earlier banned its members to take part in rallies organized by other parties without prior approval of the party. However, Parliamentarian Dilum Amunugama and several Provincial Council members took part in the rally.
Meanwhile, Amunugama stated that he is ready to face any disciplinary action taken by the party, local media reports said.
