Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga lashed out at Sri Lanka Freedom Party members who had accepted ministerial portfolios in the government, adding that they have betrayed the party.
Speaking at an event at Minuwangoda recently, Ranatunga said that he entered the fight to make former president Mahinda Rajapaksa the SLFP Prime Ministerial candidate, prepared to give up his Chief Ministerial post if needed.
In contrast, some SLFP leaders are betraying the party by accepting positions in the government, he added.
He also expressed disbelief at the inclusion of some SLFP leaders whom the UNP had branded as corrupt until recently. Ranatunga asked if they become corrupt-free overnight, after they joined the government.
Ranatunga was a prominent participant in the pro-Mahinda Rajapaksa rally in Ratnapura which saw the participation of more than 25 SLFP PMs and Provincial Council Members.
