The police Special Investigation Unit on Thursday (9) recorded a statement from MP Tiran Alles over an alleged financial fraud.
The Fort Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday impounded the passports of Tiran Alles and five other Directors of a private company owing to an alleged financial fraud occurred through funds allocated for tsunami-affected people.
The company, RADA Institute, had been set up in 2006 with the approval of the Presidential Secretariat with the stated aim of building houses for residents of the North and East who had lost their homes in the 2004 Tsunami. MP Tiran Alles was the Chairman of this institute.
Funds for RADA Institute had been channeled through the Presidential Secretariat after being released by the Treasury.
It was stated that a staggering Rs.645 million of government funds had been released to RADA Institute, it has been revealed that the company had not built a single house in the North and East.
However, MP Tiran Alles said at a recent press briefing that he has been charged without proper investigations and due to the pressure of a certain individual.
