A motion of no-confidence was handed over this morning against the Chief Minister of the Central Provincial Council (CPC) Sarath Ekanayake.
The motion was signed by 19 Central Provincial Council members.
The CPC Opposition Leader Ranjith Aluwihare told media that the no-confidence motion was submitted to the Assistant Secretary of the provincial council. Meanwhile, UNP Councilor Chanaka Ailapperuma told local media that the no-confidence motion was presented since no action had been taken on the complaints against the CM.
On March 12, 32 members of the ruling party and the opposition handed over affidavits to Central Provincial Governor Surangani Ellawala, seeking the appointment of Thilina Bandara Tennakoon as Chief Minister.
UPFA won 36 seats of the Central Provincial Council at the Provincial Council Elections in 2013. CPC has a total of 58 seats.
