Popular actor Daya Alwis passed away this morning at Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital. He was undergoing treatment following an accident last week. He was 72.
Alwis, who started his career as a graduate teacher, started as a stage drama actor four decades ago. He started acting in Sinhalese films from mid-1970s and played roles in more than 40 Sinhalese films. Alwis also played roles in several international films including Water (2005), Les mystères de Sadjurah (1997) and Madre Teresa (2003).
Alwis was also a popular figure in teledramas.
