Chaminda Vaas tendered his resignation as fast bowling coach of Sri Lanka national cricket team, SLC sources said.
Vaas, a former test cricketer, was appointed as fast bowling coach of the national team in February 2013. He was however, criticized by certain sections in the administration, when the team failed to perform.
Despite this, some commentators said that he was being made a scapegoat.
A high point of this criticism arose during the recently concluded 2015 Cricket World Cup. Reports were circulating of the imminent replacement of Vaas with another former fast bowler Champaka Ramanayake.
In the end, another former Sri Lankan fast bowler Rumesh Rathnayake was appointed to assist Vaas during the world cup.
Vaas is regarded as the best fast bowler Sri Lanka has produced in its history of cricket.
