Fundamental Rights Of Angunakolapelassa 'Gun-bearer' Violated: Lawyer

The lawyer who represents the army corporal who was remanded for allegedly entering a meeting attended by President Maithripala Sirisena with a pistol said that the fundamental rights of his client have been violated.

Attorney-at-Law Chathura Koralage said that the order to remand his client was not obtained from the acting Magistrate designated to be on duty on Saturday night.

The Angunakolapelassa Magistrate had delegated Acting Magistrate Prabhath Weerasinghe to perform his duties on the particular date. However, the police have obtained the order to remand the suspect from Acting Magistrate Indika Wijeratne, who had not been delegated for duty on May 2.

Koralage said that he was seeking judicial remedy on this matter.

Corporal Senaka Kumara, who had allegedly entered a meeting attended by the President last month at Angunakolapelassa carrying a pistol, was arrested on the night of May 2 and remanded till May 12,
