Amarasinghe Holds 'Secret' Talks On Political Future

Several JVP leaders held discussions with former JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe on the launching of his new political party, local media reports said.

Meanwhile, speculations are rising on the possibility of Amarasinghe entering politics through Jana Setha Peramuna of Battaramulle Seelarathana Thera. Amarasinghe recently visited the Janasetha Peramuna office and held talks with its leader.

However, speaking to local media, Amarasinghe rejected these speculations. His discussion with Seelarathana Thera was not political, he said. Amarasinghe pointed out that he had visited Seelarathana Thera to thank him for commending his decision to leave the JVP.

Somawansa Amarasinghe, who led the JVP for 25 years until 2014, announced his decision to leave the party on April 16. He alleged that the JVP was intentionally delaying the process of building socialism in the country.
