Uva Provincial Minister Ravindra Samaraweera stated that although the UNP grabbed power in the Provincial Council, there were conspiracies to remove the party from power.
Samaraweera, who is also the UNP Chief Organizer in Welimada, said this at an event on Tuesday (5).
He further said that the conspiracies might even succeed and the present provincial government might lose power. However, he added that the UNP is ready to take necessary steps at such an eventuality. These steps cannot be revealed at the moment, he added.
UPFA narrowly beat UNP in the provincial election in September 2014 and Shasheendra Rajapaksa was reappointed as Chief Minister. However, following the defeat of Mahinda Rajapaksa in the presidential election on January 8, UNP was able to seize power and Harin Fernando became the Chief Minister of the province.
