UPFA Party Leaders Urge For Elections Following Appointment Of Commissions

Sri Lanka Communist Party leader D.E.W. Gunasekera said that UPFA party leaders had a fruitful discussion with President Maithripala Sirisena on several matters concerning the 20 th Amendment.

“We decided to make a request with both the president and the prime minister to take necessary steps to pass 20A as soon as possible” Gunasekera told local media.

Party leaders urged the president to appoint the Constitutional Council and make sure that the independent commissions are appointed as soon as possible. Then the government should call for elections, the party leaders also told the president.

A special parliamentary session will be held on June 3 to decide on the three non-parliamentary members to the Constitutional Council.
