Protests Continue In Kahawatta: One Person Arrested

Police arrested one individual after protests broke out in Kahawatta town this morning. Protesters gathered in the town once again to express their anger at the recent acquittal of three individuals accused of murdering a mother and her daughter at Kotakethana.

More than a hundred people were involved in these protests. They blocked the Ratnapura-Embilipitiya road. Motor vehicles were instructed to take alternative routes, police said.

Meanwhile, reports said that police prevented some Kotakethana villagers before they reached the town, reports said.

Three individuals were acquitted on May 28 by Colombo High Court in the murder trial of a mother and daughter in Kotakethana. The murder took place in July 2012.
